Hawaii Kai

Welcome to Hawaii Kai

A convenient neighborhood with world-famous surfing beaches and a lavish lifestyle

Located 12 miles east of downtown Honolulu, Hawaii Kai is an upscale residential community. It was a fish pond and wetland area before Henry J. Kaiser transformed it into an idyllic suburban community in the 1960s. Today, it's home to over 30,000 people, first-class schools, various dining and shopping options, and great recreational activities.

Hawaii Kai offers multiple real estate options, including single-family homes, condominiums, and townhouses. There are also larger executive houses on spacious lots. Homes located on the marina make it easy to dock your boat and enjoy ocean views from your house.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Hawaii Kai offers several convenient shopping centers, movie theaters, Costco, and more to make your life easy and fun. Koko Marina Shopping Center features an array of restaurants, a movie theater, a pet store, a gym, beauty services, and more. Once you're done exploring, order a tasty treat from Leonard's Malasada Wagon.

Kokonuts Shave Ice is best known as a former president’s favorite shaved ice while vacationing on the islands. So why not do the same? The spot, located at Koko Marina Shopping Center, serves fluffy shaved ice with syrup flavors, acai bowls, ice cream, bubble drinks, and more.

The Original Roy's Restaurant is the go-to spot for upscale Hawaiian fusion fare. From the tiki torches and koi point to gorgeous marina views, dining here is quite the experience. Some of the menu favorites include crab cakes with spicy sesame butter, slow braised beef short rib, and classic misoyaki butterfish.

Things to Do

There are several attractions and destinations worth checking out in Hawaii Kai. One such place is Hanauma Bay, a world-famous sanctuary where fish and corals thrive despite the number of people who snorkel here. It also features a protected bay lined with cliffs and a sandy beach where you can lounge after snorkeling.

The sometimes treacherous shore break and consistent barrels at Sandy Beach are for the skilled and brave. bodysurfing and bodyboarding. When not surfing, you can lounge on the beach or grab a bite at one of the food trucks.

Determined adventurers love the Spitting Caves, which feature colorful wavy cliffs dropping into the ocean. It's a great place to enjoy a nice hike with gorgeous views, beautiful sunset, and crashing waves. Take care as it can be treacherous and slippery.

The Koko Head Trail is a set of railroad tracks that goes up the side of a crater and culminates at the top of Koko Head Crater. You can check out amazing views and pillboxes at the top before heading back down. You can also hike the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail or the Kaiwi Shoreline Trail, which takes you to Alan Davis Beach.

The Koko Marina Christmas Boat Parade is probably the most popular event in Hawaii Kai. Find a great spot at Hawaii Kai Shopping Center and watch the lit-up boat parade make its way around the marina.
